Final Tribute to Robert Johnson

PNWFPA Member Robert Johnson suffered a Line-Of-Duty Death on Sunday, July 5, 2009 when he succumbed to injuries he sustained on October 20, 2008, while participating at a fire prevention demonstration for the youngsters at the Pine Grove Nursery School. Attempting to retrieve an air bottle from an engine, Bob lost his footing and fell about four feet striking his head on the ground and losing consciousness. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment but remained in a coma until his passing.

Bob was born in Manhattan on September 3, 1933 and was a long time resident of Mahopac. On May 25, 1963 he married Claire (Brown). He was a retired baked products distributer with a route in nearby Danbury, CT. Bob was a 17-year member of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department, a former US Marine, member of the Marine Corps League of Putnam County and life member of VFW Post 5491. He was very active in the Toys for Tots Program. As a life member of the Mahopac Falls Fire Department, Bob last served as a member of their fire police company and was an active member of the Putnam-Northern Westchester Fire Police Association and member of the Putnam County Fire Police Response Team.

The well attended department and PNWFPA memorial services were conducted at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home and St. John the Evangelist Church. After a last alarm and firehouse drive-by, the coffin, transported aboard the MFFD’s antique Mack, continued to an internment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY.
