As customary, the seminar began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence to remember those who answered their last alarm. Undersheriff Peter Convery welcomed all on behalf of Sheriff Smith. | |

Suffolk County Fire Academy Instructor Paul Gerrard gave a presentation on scene, preservation, responder safety, and observation. He was accompanied by his father, Gene, who is editor of the Volunteer Fire Police News. | |

The PNWFPA's second guest, New York State Police Tec./Sgt. Ira Promisel, gave a Power Point program that dealt primarily with "Quick Clearance" of highway emergencies as one strategy to avoid potential injuries or deaths to first responders and the safety of the public at large. | |
