John J. Bodor Sheriff's Fire Police Seminar Part I 04/10/19 |
The evening opened with introductory remarks by Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, County Commissioner Ken Clair, 1st Sgt. Bill Meyer, and PNWFPA President Marilyn Miller. The prayer was led by PNWFPA Chaplain Louis Mettey, followed by a brief moment of silence in memory of PNWFPA Past President John J. Bodor. This was followed by an interesting presentation by William Bujarski of Response Protection Corporation, who demonstrated the fire hood provided by his company. The main speaker for the evening was Ira Promisel, who spoke on the topic of "Trends In Highway Safety". The break was, as always, welcome, and many donuts were consumed. The evening concluded with a final presentation by Prof. Promisel, with some interesting discussion about the potential of autonomous cars, and the possible dangers they present to first responders.
As always, the 50 / 50 raffle was a great success, with a couple of members happy they attended the meeting.

The second half of the 2019 John J. Bodor Sheriff's Seminar opened at 7:00 PM on April 17. The Seminar was opened with a welcome by Under-Sheriff Michael Corrigan who also led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation was offered by PNWFPA Chaplain Louis Metty of Continental Village F.D. District Attorney Bob Tendy said a few words of praise for the fire police from when he was a Town Supervisor and so did Assemblyman Kevin Byrne who was also a firefighter and EMT in Kent. The principal speaker for the evening was Mr. Peter Dandreano, who spoke on the topic of Fire Police - What We Do. Mr. Dandreano was a police officer for 20 years, an EMT for 21 years and currently a Patterson Town Councilman as well as a member of the Putnam County Traffic Safety Advisory Board. As usual, a break gave all members an opportunity to snack and enjoy some informal conversation. PNWFPA President Marilyn Miller read a long list of new members from a variety of area Fire Departments, who were all welcomed with loud and sustained applause. The evening ended with a drawing.
